Attention all primary students! This Wednesday (June 12th)is ourPrimary Summer Play Day! We will go outside for fun activities during the middle block (12:00pm – 2:00pm). Please be prepared for the weather by bringing a water bottle, wearing a hat, and putting on plenty of sunscreen. Students will be in mixed-grade groups (grades 1-3), and the groups will be rotating through seven activity stations. Groups will spend about 10 minutes at each station. One of the stations will be a cool-down station indoors with freezies. It should be a fun afternoon! (The rain date is Thursday, June 13th)

The WEJ BBQ is THIS THURSDAY from 4:30-7:30pm! The weather looks good, and the BBQ will happen rain or shine! Here are answers to the questions we have received:
Will there be Halal food options? Yes, there will be even more food vendors and options this year!
Can a student remain at school after school (i.e., not ride the bus home) and attend the BBQ at 4:30? No. There is no staff supervision between 3:45 and 4:30, and all students need adult supervision at the BBQ (which starts at 4:30). We advise students who normally take the bus to take the bus home and return with their parent/adult supervisor.
Can students come to the BBQ alone? All students should be supervised, and a parent should be responsible for them at the BBQ. This is very important in an emergency, injury, allergic reaction, inclement weather, etc..
Will the BBQ or other events be moved inside if it rains? No. We will not have access to the school except for the use of a few washrooms. This is an outdoor event. Please remember to dress for the weather! If it rains, we cannot go into the school gym or other areas of the school.

Grade 3 EQAO testingwill take placenext week and run fromMonday (June 3rd) to Thursday (June 6th). Like last year, the students will complete the EQAO testing online on Chromebooks. Students should make sure they have a good breakfast and are well-rested each day! Having a good night’s sleep each night will be necessary. Your child will have lots of time to complete the sessions each day, so they are encouraged to take their time and do their best. They are reminded to use the online tools (e.g. text reader, calculator, split-screen, highlighter, etc.) and the math manipulatives, thesauruses, their personal dictionary, etc., if they need any! They will be doing Language and Math sessions each day. Parents, please do not schedule appointments next week if possible! (Don’t forget that next Friday is a PD Day (no school for students)).
We have taken some class time to prepare for the EQAO testing. Students have tried practice tests in Reading, Writing, and Math, and we have looked at exemplars to help the students understand how they should be answering the questions. The students also tried the online EQAO primary sample test and practiced using the various online tools. Feel free to have your child revisit this online practice test and tools before Monday. I have also posted some math review questions in Google Classroom if your child wants to do further review!
